Record on Romania’s roads: Young driver caught doing 246 kph on motorway

A young man had his driver’s license suspended for 90 days after he was recorded doing 246 kph (153 mph) on the A3 Turda-Bors motorway in central Romania on Saturday, February 20.

According to a Police statement, this is the highest speed the radars have ever registered on a highway in Romania. The maximum legal speed on the motorway in Romania is 130 kph (close to 81 mph).

The young man, aged 26, was driving to Bors when the Police caught him. The Police didn't mention what car he was driving. Besides having his license detained, he also got a fine of RON 945 (more than EUR 210), as requested by the law.

The next day, on February 21, the Police caught another man doing 208 kph (129 mph) on the Bucharest-Ploiesti segment of the A3 motorway. The driver, aged 28, was heading to Bucharest.

Similar to the previous case, the Police suspended his right to drive for 90 days and gave him a fine of RON 945 (over EUR 210).
