Police officers check airport taxis in five Romanian cities

More than 260 vehicles were checked on Tuesday, March 14, during an action of the Romanian Police aimed at preventing piracy among taxis operating around airports and detect those who approach arriving travellers to offer them transport services.

The police officers checked the taxis that operate at Bucharest’s Otopeni Airport, as well as those at the international airports in Cluj-Napoca, Timisoara, Iasi, and Bacau, according to a statement from the Romanian Police.

The action targeted both people who were carrying taxi activities illegally, and those who, although authorized, failed to comply with pricing rules or the quality of service.

The police officers checked a total of 263 cars and issued 99 fines. Moreover, they also withdrew 14 registration certificates for technical failures or unauthorized extra equipment.

The Romanian Police announced that it would continue in the coming period the actions aimed at preventing and combating illegal taxi and rent-a-car activities.
