PM: Romania wants an active NATO presence in the Black Sea region

09 March 2016

Romania wants an active NATO presence in the Black Sea region, said Prime Minister Dacian Ciolos.

He met with the NATO secretary general Jens Stoltenberg, who said that he will support this initiative.

“Romania will take the steps to strengthen the cooperation with the partner and neighboring countries, Bulgaria and Turkey, and this cooperation will turn into an international one,” Ciolos added.

Stoltenberg has suggested Romania to keep increasing the budget allocations for the defense sector.

“This measure is extremely important for our countries. We are facing the biggest security challenges of this generation. All member states are increasing their troops’ reaction capacity and we consolidate our presence at the Alliance’s eastern border,” he said.
