Orange expands 4G coverage to roads, train routes to seaside and mountain resorts in Romania

27 June 2016

Orange Romania, the biggest local telecom operator, will offer 4G Internet connections to clients traveling from Bucharest to seaside and mountain resorts, the company announced on Monday, June 27.

Thus, Orange customers traveling on the A1 (Bucharest-Pitesti), A2 (Bucharest-Constanta), and A3 (Bucharest-Ploiesti) highways, as well as on DN1 (Bucharest-Brasov) and DN39 (Constanta-Vama Veche) national roads are now able to enjoy 4G Internet during their trips.

Moreover, the 4G service is also available for those who choose to travel from Bucharest to Constanta and Brasov by train.

“Orange’s project to develop a powerful 4G network in this segment comes amid significant growth in consumption of mobile internet. Customers want the same quality of service they have in urban areas when on holiday,” reads the Orange statement.

Orange’s 4G network currently covers 72% of Romania’s total population and 96% of the urban population, being available in more than 4,800 cities and smaller towns. Moreover, the telecom company offers 4G coverage in all subway stations in Bucharest.

Orange Romania posted a turnover of EUR 235.5 million in the first three months of the year, up by 6.5% compared to the same period of 2015. The number of its mobile service customers dropped by 168,000, to little over 10 million.
