Only one medal for Romania at World Gymnastics Championships in Antwerp
Usually a dominant force on the international scene, Romania's gymnastic team won just a single bronze medal at the recent World Gymnastics Championships in Antwerp.
Three time European champion and Olympic bronze medalist Larisa Lordache snatched Romania’s sole place on the podium, finishing third in the floor competition.
Albeit unexpected, with Romania usually winning several medals at international competitions, the average result follows a disappointing 2011 campaign when the country failed to appear on the podium in any discipline at the World Championships.
The recent tournament saw Sandra Izbaşa finish 7th after falling during her floor performance.
In the floor competition, the gold went to American gymnast Simone Biles, followed by Italian Vanessa Ferrari, and then by Romania's Lordache.
Romanian gymnast Marius Berbecar came 7th for jumping, and 6th for the even bars.
Lordache also got the 4th place for her individual composite and 7th for her beam performance.
