OMV CEO: Romania remains a key market for OMV

27 April 2016

Romania and Austria remain key markets for the Austrian company OMV, because two-thirds of the oil and gas production of the company come from these countries, said Reiner Seele, OMV CEO.

“I am so in love with the activity in Romania, that I don’t want to share it with anybody,” said Seele, reports local Economica.net.

Austria has recently signed a swap agreement with Gazprom, but its activity in Romania will not be affected by this deal.

OMV tries to rebuild reserves, as its fields are now mature. The swap with Gazprom is one solution, and the Neptun offshore project in Romania is another solution, said Seele.

However, the company needs a stable legal frame in Romania, because the project in the Black Sea is an investment for 20-25 years, the OMV CEO added.

The gas production in the Neptun perimeter will start in 2020 the earliest. OMV Petrom and American group Exxon have equal shares in the project.
