New maternity to be built in Bucharest with some EUR 12 mln

08 December 2016

Colectiv GTG 3010, the association supporting the victims of the Colectiv club fire that occurred in Bucharest over a year ago, has signed a memorandum with the District 4 City Hall and Sfantul Ioan Hospital for building a new maternity in Bucharest.

The investment is estimated at some EUR 12 million, namely EUR 8 million for building the maternity and EUR 4 million for its equipment, and should be completed by 2020. The new building will be located in the courtyard of Sfantul Ioan Hospital, and will have a capacity of 110 beds. The financing will come from a combination of private and public sources.

“At the moment, we’re starting a fundraising campaign, and we hope to raise the first EUR 1 million in the next 2-3 months. We’re already working on the project,” said Eugen Iancu, president of the Colectiv Association, reports local Mediafax.

The District 4 City Hall will also contribute to this project. According to the District’s mayor Daniel Baluta, the City Hall will provide RON 5 million (some EUR 1.1 million) in a first phase, but the amount could be increased depending on the construction’s progress.

Robert Agafitei, the manager of Sfantul Ioan Hospital, also said that, once the project is completed, the building would become the hospital's property.

The fundraising campaign for this project is to start at the beginning of next year, and will be done with the help of several companies specialized in PR, advertising and marketing, which will provide these services pro bono.
