New IMF mission arriving in Romania January 25
A new mission from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) headed by Jeffrey Franks (in picture, right) will be in Romania from January 25 to February 6, to conduct the fourth review of the stand-by agreement, according to IMF’s Resident Representative in Romania and Bulgaria, Tonny Lybek (in picture, left).
“Some technical meetings will begin on January 24 and Mr. Franks will stay on for a day after the mission and depart on February 8. The IMF visit will take place jointly with teams from the European Commission and the World Bank,” Tonny Lybex said.
The IMF mission will meet the Romanian authorities, representatives of political parties, unions, business associations, banks, and civil society organizations.
In December 2011 IMF completed the third review of Romania’s economic performance under the program supported by the agreement, and made available a new tranche for Romania, of EUR 507 million. Taking the total resources currently available for Romania to about EUR 1.6 billion.
