Another day, another problem for Romanian airline Tarom

26 October 2016

Romanian state-owned airline Tarom has faced serious turbulence in recent weeks as the company registered big delays and even cancelled some flights to due technical problems.

On Wednesday morning, October 26, a Tarom flight from Bucharest to Brussels was canceled last minute due to an aircraft malfunction. Apparently, the spare part that was supposed to solve the aircraft’s technical problem arrived too late, reports local Digi24.

Thus, the company management decided to cancel the flight and redirect the 60 passengers to other flights.

The incident occurred just one day after a domestic flight between Bucharest and Iasi took off late due to a minor malfunction. The flight was supposed to depart from Bucharest at 08:00, but finally took off at 11:35, reports local News.ro.

A similar incident occurred on Monday when the Bucharest-Sofia flight, as well as the Sofia-Bucharest return flight registered delays of over four hours due to a failure in the communication system of the aircraft.

Several other such incidents have occurred on Tarom flights in the last month, mainly due to technical problems. For example, in mid-October, two domestic flights were cancelled on the same day. Both of them were leaving from Bucharest’s Otopeni airport, with one going to Satu Mare and the other one to Iasi.

In late-September, another Tarom flight to Amsterdam had to turn back to Bucharest after 25 minutes due to a malfunction of the air conditioning system.

On Tuesday, October 25, Transport Minister Sorin Buse said that Tarom would go through a serious restructuring process, and the name of the strategic consultant that will be in charge of this would be announced in about ten days. He made the announcement during an interview for local Europa FM.

Ionut Mosteanu, a state secretary in the Transport Ministry, previously announced the Ministry’s plans about Tarom.
