National day of mourning in Moldova in the memory of Queen Anne of Romania

The Republic of Moldova will also mark a day of national mourning on August 13, the day when former Queen Anne of Romania will be buried at Curtea de Arges.

“As a sign of deep sorrow for the death of Queen Anne of Romania, Moldovan President Nicolae Timofti signed a decree that declares August 13, 2016, a day of national mourning,” reads a statement from the Moldovan Presidency.

Thus, on this day, the flags will be flown at half-staff throughout Moldova and the country’s diplomatic and consular missions. Moreover, at 10:00, the country will honor the Queen’s memory with a moment of silence.

The public authorities, businesses, and organizations are also advised to postpone any kind of entertainment activities planned for August 13. The mass-media institutions in Moldova should also take into account the specifics of this mourning day when organizing their programs.

Romania will also mark a day of national mourning on August 13.

Queen Anne died on August 1 and will be buried at Curtea de Arges on August 13. According to Royal House lawyer Ioan Luca Vlad, His Majesty King Michael I wishes to attend the funeral of his wife, but no decision has been made yet.
