MPs want to tighten rules for foreigners who buy farmland in Romania

22 April 2016

A group of 24 deputies, most of them from the National Liberal Party (PNL) have initiated a law draft that aims to impose stricter conditions for foreigners who want to buy farmland in Romania.

Should this bill pass, foreigners who want to buy agriculture land in Romania will have to meet the following conditions: they will have to start using the land for agriculture within six months after the purchase, they will have to have a Romanian associate, they will have to hire Romanians in management positions (at least 60% of all positions) and for work (90% local workforce), reports local Capital.ro.

The investors will also be checked so that they don’t have tax debt in Romania or other countries and will not be allowed to use off-shore companies.

The deputies have submitted their bill to the Senate.
