MP asks for “First Bathroom” program in Romania

22 April 2016

Social democrat MP Aurelia Cristea has asked the Government to consider introducing a national program through which the state will grant EUR 200 to households that don’t have a bathroom in order to help them set up one.

She called the program “First Bathroom” or “From Basin to Bathroom”.

She said that only 45% of the households in Romania had running water and only 28% had an inside bathroom. The “First Bathroom” program would thus help the households that have running water but don’t have inside bathrooms to set up such facilities. The program would benefit some 186,000 people, Cristea said.

She considers that the program can be added to the Government’s set of measures aimed at combatting poverty and that it could be applied starting 2017.
