Movies proposed for the 2017 Oscars to be screened in Bucharest cinema this weekend

Some of the movies proposed for the Best Foreign Language Film category of the 2017 Oscars will be screened at the Elvira Popescu Cinema in Bucharest this weekend.

The event is called Oscar Weekend and will take place between January 13 and January 15. The event will open with Sieranevada, Romania’s proposal for the 2017 Academy Awards. The film was also selected in the Cannes Film Festival’s main competition this year, alongside Cristian Mungiu’s Bacalaureat.

Also on Friday, the film fans can watch the Iranian-French drama The Salesman, directed by Asghar Farhadi, and Land of Mine, a Danish-German historical drama film directed by Martin Zandvliet.

The Saturday lineup is made of French-Swiss animated film Ma vie de Courgette directed by Claude Barras, psychological thriller Elle, directed by Paul Verhoeven, Finish drama The happiest day in the life of Olli Mäki, directed by Juho Kuosmanen, and Russian drama Paradise, directed by Andrei Konchalovsky.

The event will end on Sunday with four other films proposed for this year’s Oscars, namely German-Austrian comedy-drama Toni Erdmann, directed by Maren Ade, Italian documentary Fire at Sea, directed by Gianfranco Rosi, Canadian-French drama Juste la Fin du Monde, directed by Xavier Dolan, and Australian film Tanna, directed by Martin Butler and Bentley Dean.
