Euro 2016, Pokemon Go and iPhone 7 among most popular Google searches in Romania this year

The European Football Championship (Euro 2016), Pokemon Go, iPhone 7, or the presidential elections in the US are some of the topics that marked 2016, and this can also be seen from the most popular searches made by Romanians on Google.

“Euro 2016” is first in the ranking of top Google searches made in Romania this year, followed by “Baccalaureate results 2016”, “Online movies 2016,” “National evaluation results 2016”, and “Pokemon Go.”

The top 10 is completed by “iPhone 7,” “Orthodox Calendar 2016,” “Slither.io,” “Pixwords answers,” and “Donald Trump.”

The ranking of the most searched events this year is similar to the one related to the overall top searches, with Euro 2016 being on top of the list. The Baccalaureate exam comes second, followed by the National Evaluation exam, Rio Olympic Games, Black Friday shopping event, high school admission, Romania-Poland (football and handball matches), Brexit, US elections, and earthquake.

The most popular “Who is…?” searches include Moldavian music group Carla’s Dreams, American President-elect Donald Trump, and Romanian politician Nicusor Dan – the president of the new party Save Romania Union.

In terms of movies, Romanians went on Google to search for Suicide Squad, The Revenant, and Deadpool. The ranking also includes Romanian comedy Selfie 69, Me Before You, Batman vs. Superman, Doctor Strange, Now You See Me 2, Fifty Shades of Black, and Dirty Grandpa.

When it comes to technology, the most popular searches were iPhone 7, Samsung Galaxy S7, Samsung J5, iPhone 6S, Huawei P9 Lite, Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime, Huawei P9, Huawei P8 Lite, Note 7, and Samsung A5.

The 2016 searches are split into several categories, the lists being created by using several combined services and tools. Most of the data comes from Google Trends.

In 2015, tennis star Simona Halep, the baccalaureate exam, the tragedy at the Colectiv club, and ISIS were among the hottest topics in Romania. Read more about it here.
