Moldova invites Romania to participate together at Eurovision

26 April 2016

The Moldovan public television broadcaster has sent a letter of support for the Romanian public television TVR and Ovidiu Anton, Romania’s disqualified representative for Eurovision.

The message came after Romania was kicked out of the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest due to TVR’s debts to the European Broadcasting Union (EBU).

Moreover, the Moldovan broadcaster invited Ovidiu Anton to compete in Eurovision together with the Republic of Moldova’s representative, Lidia Isac, reports Info Prut.

“We’re convinced that the two can make an exceptional duet with the song Falling Stars in the first semifinal, on May 10. Obviously, the changes in the show’s concept, in such an advance stage, involve the approval of the contest’s organizer,” reads the letter.

However, the Romanian representative has kindly refused the Moldovan broadcaster’s offer in a Facebook post: “I take a bow before our brothers in Moldova, is an extraordinary gesture, unique and noble. Because I know how much work the preparation of such a moment requires and how important Eurovision is for the career of an artist, I don’t want to affect in any way Lidia’s performance, in which she invested so much energy. It is a perfect song for her and, no matter how much I want to be on the stage I’ve dreamed about, I can’t do it by bringing risks to other artists. I want to sing Moment of Silence for Romanians and for the Eurovision fans everywhere.”

Anton ended his message by wishing good luck to the Moldovan singer Lidia Isac and by thanking once again for the noble gesture.

Eurovision will take place in Stockholm, on May 10, 12, and 14.
