Missing Romanian family after Nice attack: mother and child found, father still missing

18 July 2016

A Romanian family of three was reported missing after the tragic attack in Nice last week. While the mother and child were identified in hospitals, searches continue for the father.

On Saturday, July 16, the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) said in a statement that three Romanians (husband, wife, and minor child), who were in Nice at the time of the truck attack, hadn't been located yet. Later the same day, the Ministry announced that the child was identified in a local hospital, with the help of his relatives. His health condition was stable.

The good news continued on Sunday, July 17 when the mother was also found in a hospital in Nice. According to MAE, the mother’s health condition was quite bad, but stable.

Unfortunately, the third Romanian missing after the attack in Nice is still missing.

“Searches continue for the other missing Romanian citizen. We remind everyone that the French authorities haven’t completed the identification process of all victims,” reads the MAE statement.

The news about the missing Romanians came after MAE announced that two Romanian citizens were injured in the tragic incident that occurred in Nice last week, during celebrations organized on France’s national day. Some 84 people were killed, including children, after a truck drove into a crowd watching the fireworks for the July 14 celebration.

The French authorities made several arrests after the attack. The Islamic State claimed responsibility for the deadly attack. According to ISIS' media group, Amaq Agency, the man who drove the truck into the crowd was an ISIS soldier, reports CNN.
