Light Carpet, Penguin Army, 3D Selfie at Bucharest’s Spotlight festival next week

27 April 2016

Interactive installations and light shows will animate Bucharest’s urban landscape during upcoming second edition of the International Light Festival – Spotlight.

The Light Carpet, the Penguin Army and the Angels of Freedom are just some of the installations that will offer unique experiences to the festival’s public, between May 5 and May 8. All installations will be located on Calea Victoriei venue, between the Central University Library and Natiunile Unite Square.

The festival will open with a breathtaking show by Lords of Lightning from UK, whose installation is inspired by Nikola Tesla’s inventions. A Zoli Toth Project show will complete the atmosphere. The opening event will take place on May 5, starting 20:30.

After that, everyone can take a walk on Calea Victoriei and enjoy the experience.

For example, the public can see the Fantastic Planet, an installation in the form of a 12-meter inflatable and bright giant. Designed to spread the message that our planet is a truly fantastic wonderland, the installation takes after the 1973 science fiction movie with the same title. It can be found at the Carol I Central University Library.

Visitors can also try the Light Carpet Iris, a 60-meter long Dutch installation presented as a challenge for the senses. The carpet changes its colors and patterns when someone steps on it. It will be located in front of the National Museum of Art.

Another attraction of the event is The Penguin Army, an installation made of many multicolored penguins. Out of all the penguins with their ever-changing colors, Fynn and Dana are the most talkative. All you have to do is find the penguins in the Kretulescu Park and discover what they communicate.

Meanwhile, the installation in Revolutiei Square, called M-Structure, will be a tribute to the Romanian sculpture Constantin Brancusi and will refer to his famous Endless Column sculpture.

The event also comes with a surprise for all selfie fans out there: the 3D Selfie. Visitors can get their own 3D scan, download it and share it online. The installation can be found at Calea Victoriei 21.

Five brightly lit angels will be located in the small square in front of the Odeon Thater, as part of the Angels of Freedom installation. Each of them is unique, with their wings in ever-changing colours.

The event’s program also includes other installations such as the Celestial Outcome, the Light Striker, the Aram Boxes, and the Holoface. Find out more about the event and its program here.
