The lawyers law, which has been criticized for trying to introduce immunity for lawyers, was adopted yesterday in the Chamber of Deputies.

According to the bill, the judicial authorities can’t seize the documents that contain communication between the client and his lawyer or the documents including notes made by the lawyer for the defense of his client.

The MPs removed one exception, which allowed authorities to seize or raise documents if the evidence generated the reasonable suspicion that the lawyer had committed offenses in carrying out his profession, reports local Mediafax.

The law also states that the relation between the lawyer and the client can’t be technically supervised unless there is evidence that the lawyer committed an offence such as terrorism, money laundering, human trafficking, tax evasion, corruption, and other serious offenses.

The lawyers are also exempted from denouncing the crimes they find out about while doing their job, except for murder, genocide, and terrorism. A provision that didn’t allow lawyers to work as informers or collaborators of the secret services was also removed from the law.

The law, which has been promoted by 30 MPs, was modified several times.
