Italian group plans to move production from China to Romania

06 January 2017

Italian group Custom, a manufacturer of printing technologies for the professional market, plans to transfer its production from China to Romania on the long run, said Marius Ursulescu, the general director of the group’s local subsidiary, reports local Ziarul Financiar.

"Romania’s productivity beats China’s. It is much better to produce in Romania, both in terms of quality and logistics,” Ursulescu argued.

The group currently produces mainstream products in China, whereas in Romania, it manufactures high-tech products. The local factory in Glimboca, in the Caras-Severin county, uses raw materials from Romania, such as cables, electrical pads, in 40% of the cases.

"The raw materials made in Romania are more expensive but better than those made in China," said Ursulescu.

Custom currently has almost 100 employees in Romania. 70 of them work in the Glimboca factory and the rest work in a company manufacturing semi-finished products, collaborating exclusively with the Italian group.
