Imported gas reaches a third of Romania's total consumption

29 August 2016

Imported gas will account for 30% of the national consumption in September, due to the low gas prices on international markets. However, the population will use only domestic gas, according to the Energy Regulatory Authority (ANRE).

A small part of the imported gas will be stored for the winter. Most of it will go on the competitive market and will be used by big consumers, reports local Agerpres.

The total gas consumption is estimated at 6.5 million MWh in September. The imports will total 2 million MWh.

The high volume of imported gas is unexpected, considering that Romania has imported less gas in recent years due to the lower industrial consumption. In September last year imports amounted only to 0.03% of the consumption, and one year before, they reached 1.66% of the consumption.
