Huge seaside demand in Romania could lead to new investments in hotels

17 August 2016

Romania’s seaside hotels and guesthouses have been overcrowded in the last two weeks, said Mohammad Murad, president of the Romanian Tourism Employers Federation – FPTR.

The excellent results recorded during this season could stimulate seaside investments for the next year. The accommodation capacity could increase by 5% in 2017, Murad added, cited by local Profit.ro.

About 5,000-6,000 new accommodation places could be opened at the seaside next year, and the investments may exceed EUR 100 million, according to the FPTR president.

Romania currently has about 108,000 accommodation places at the seaside, based on official data from The National Authority for Tourism. However, Mohammad Murad claims that the information is not up-to-date, and that the accommodation places total around 130,000. Moreover, there are some extra 20,000 apartments which are not classified, but have been registered on the accommodation market. Murad described them as the gray market.

Mohammad Murad is one of the biggest hotel owners at the seaside. He owns the Perla Majestic hotel in Mamaia and several other units in the Mamaia, Olimp, and Jupiter resorts.
