Romania had more than 6,800 registered accommodation units at the end of July 2015, almost 700 more (11.3%) compared to July 2014. The total number of accommodation places has increased by 5.5% in the past year, to 328,300, according to data released by the National Statistics Institute (INS).

The number of hotels in Romania was 1,545, at the end of July, up by 5% compared to one year before, while the total number of accommodation places available in local hotels was over 190,000, or 58% of the total.

More than half of all the hotels in Romania (51%) were classified with three stars. There were also 294 four-star hotels, 27 more than in July 2014, and 34 five-star hotels, three more than one year before.

The number of guesthouses and rural guesthouses has increased by more than 15% in the past year, to 3,445. The number of accommodation places within these units also went up by over 16%, to 67,000.

The most accommodation units were located in Brasov county, in central Romania, which had 886 units, and Constanta county, at the seaside, where there were 755 units.

Harghita (357), Sibiu (315), and Prahova (314) were also in the top counties by the number of accommodation units.
