Hotels in Romania welcome more tourists in February

The hotel and guesthouses in Romania registered more than 630,000 tourist arrivals in February this year, up by 19.2% year-on-year.

Romanian tourists accounted for 79.4% of the total arrivals, some 501,000, while the foreigners had a share of 20.6%, according to data from the National Statistics Institute (INS).

Most of the 129,700 foreign tourists who arrived in Romanian hotels and guesthouses came from Europe (100,800), followed by those from Asia (16,300), North America (7,100), Africa (1,300), and South America (1,100). The number of tourists from South America increased by 57% year-on-year in February.

The overnight stays in local hotels amounted to more than 1.24 million, up by 16.9% compared to February 2015. Romanians accounted for 79.4% of the total overnight stays whereas the foreign tourists had a share of 20.6% (256,600).

The average stay in a hotel or guesthouse amounted to 2 days for both Romanian and foreign tourists.

The local accommodation units registered more than 1.21 million tourist arrivals in the first two months of the year, up by 17.9% year-on-year. Romanians accounted for most of the tourist arrivals - 79.1%, the foreigners' share being of 20.9% (namely 253,700).

The overnight stays totaled 2.39 million between January 1 and February 29, 16.4% more than in the same period the previous year.
