Head of Romanian PM’s Control Body gives up company car for Uber, public transport

02 June 2016

Valentin Mircea, the head of the Prime Minister’s Control Body, said yesterday that he would give up the company car he has been driving, and instead use the Uber car service and public transport.

His statement came after a control at the transport branch of the State Protocol Patrimony Administration (RA-APPS). The institution grants cars for the Government, but at high prices and without public tenders, Mircea said.

“Starting today I will give up the company car and I will come to office by Uber, metro or bike,” the head of the PM’s Control Body said in a Facebook post.

He also added that the trend for each official to have a company car drains huge amounts of money from the state budget.

“There are institutions that don’t have money for printing paper, but they have a lot of managers and small managers that don’t give up their company cars, which is considered a true right and giving up on it is a taboo,” he added.
