GfK: Personal safety, not among Romanians’ biggest concerns

Personal safety is not one of the Romanians’ biggest concerns, according to market research company GfK. Only 7% of Romanians are worried about terrorism, 4.5% about immigration, and 3% about religious extremism and fundamentalism.

A similar online study carried out by Gfk shows that almost a third (32%) of the people in 21 countries around the world are always concerned about their personal safety. On the other hand, only 10% say they don’t have this concern.

People living in Brazil and Turkey are the most concerned about their safety, of the 21 countries where the study has been conducted. Some 64% of the respondents in Brazil and 54% of those in Turkey say they are always concerned about their safety and security. They are followed by countries such as Mexico – 48%, Argentina – 43%, and Russia – 42%.

By contrast, Sweden, Germany, and Netherlands lead for feeling safe. For example, in Sweden, 30% of the respondents don’t agree with the statement "I am always concerned about my safety and security" while only 13% agree.

Worldwide, women are more worried about their safety and security than men: 34% of women are concerned vs. 30% of men. In terms of age, those aged between 20-29 and 30-39 are most likely to get worried about their personal safety.

GfK carried out the study online on a sample of 25,000 consumers aged over 15 from 21 countries: Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Italy, Mexico, Netherlands, Poland, Russia, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Turkey, UK and USA.
