German group Kaufland, the biggest retailer in Romania by turnover, will continue its expansion policy and will have another six stores opened by the end of the 2016 financial year.

A similar number of stores will be opened in 2017. The investment budget for the next year amounts to EUR 100 million, reports local Wall-street.ro.

Kaufland will also invest in refurbishing several of its current stores.

In 2018 the company will open its first store in a shopping center, namely in the mall that will be inaugurated in Sibiu, said Valer Hancas, Kaufland Romania corporate affair and communication manager. It will be the first store that is not built in the retailer’s own location.

If the market demands, it is pointless to open stores only in your own locations, for your simple pleasure or for the safety to become owners, said Hancas.

The retailer currently has a network of 110 stores, 12 of which are located in Bucharest. Kaufland Romania had sales of over EUR 2 billion in 2015.
