Former senior officials investigated in anti-corruption case in Romania

29 April 2016

The National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA) has decided to split the file that indicted the Romanian investor Ioan Niculae.

The separated file investigates possible deeds of corruption, and targets former high ministers, including Prime Minister Emil Boc, and former ministers Gheorghe Pogea, Adriean Videanu, Ilie Sarbu and Vasile Puscas, reports local Mediafax.

According to the National Anticorruption Directorate, Niculae tried to bribe several senior officials in 2009 to pass a governance ordinance that would have offered tax benefits, directly benefiting his company Interagro.

Several ministries supported the draft law that would have favored Ioan Niculae. These included former Prime Minister Emil Boc, former Economy Minister Adriean Videanu and former Public Finance Minister Gheorghe Pogea.
