Former Romanian interior ministry appeals against plagiarism decision

18 August 2016

Former deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Gabriel Oprea appealed against the decision of the National Council for Attesting University Titles, Diplomas, and Certificates (CNATDCU) about his plagiarism.

Oprea filed his appeal yesterday, said the Education Ministry spokesperson Mirabela Amarandei, reports local News.ro.

On August 1, the council determined that Oprea had plagiarized part of the doctoral thesis he presented in 2000 at the Faculty of Law within the University of Bucharest. Following these findings, CNATDCU members voted for the recommendation to withdraw Gabriel Oprea’s doctor title.

His appeal will be analyzed within ten days, according to the procedure. In a Facebook post, the former interior minister announced that he would challenge CNATDCU’s decision and, in case nothing changes after that, he would ask justice to “shed some light” on this case.
