Mihail Vlasov, the former president of Romania’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCIR), was indicted for embezzlement after gambling the money of the Commerce Chamber in Bucharest casinos. This is the third case where Vlasov was indicted.

The witnesses questioned by prosecutors said that Vlasov was gambling amounts ranging between EUR 30,000 and EUR 50,000 every evening, usually losing the money, reports local Adevarul.

The audit made after Vlasov, 72, had been arrested in 2014, showed that direct payments of over EUR 1.3 million were made in five Bucharest casinos with the debit card of the Chamber of Commerce. The investigation also showed that Vlasov paid over EUR 155,000 from the banking account of the Chamber of Commerce to Casino Regent, Vip Services, Grand Casino, Casino Mirage, Platinum Casino.

Vlasov led the Chamber of Commerce and Industry between 2008 and 2014. He was sent to court alongside his daughter Ingrid Vlasov and several other defendants for embezzling some RON 60 million (EUR 13.3 mln) from the Chamber of Commerce and the Romexpo exhibition center, which CCIR controls.

Mihail Vlasov is already serving a jail sentence for corruption.
