Four prestigious radio orchestras have announced their participation in the first edition of the International Festival of Radio Ensembles ‘RadiRo,’ which will be held between September 23 and 29 in the Sala Radio and Sala Palatului.
Audiences will have a chance to see the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, Symphonic Orchestra Nazionale della Rai (OSN RAI) and the BBC Symphony Orchestra. The festival will be opened by a concert of Romania’s National Radio Orchestra, accompanied by the Academic Radio Choir, Sunday September 23, starting at 19:30.
The National Radio Orchestra is the oldest of the four orchestras (formed in 1929). The profile, repertoire and history of the National Radio Orchestra define nearly a century of creation, interpretation and distribution of music in Romania. Under the direction of composer Mihail Jora, the Radio Symphony Orchestra began public concerts in 1932. The orchestra has been honored with major national and international awards, including “Charles Cros” France, “Puerta del Sol” Uruguay, “Koussevitzky” USA.
