Film studio Romania goes from strength to strength

Great locations and low costs are luring film producers to Romania, according to US entertainment news publisher Variety. The article cites Romania’s Danube Delta, the thickly forested mountains and the beautifully preserved Medieval cities as big attractions, along with the reputation for cost effectiveness. Also highlighted by the article are the film studios and sets near Bucharest.

“Filmmakers can conveniently get both modern and classic environments with these two fully functioning facilities and can save more in costs than shooting in more developed countries,” said representatives of local film company Mandragora Movies, quoted by Variety. Nearly ten years ago, Hollywood film Cold Mountain, starring Jude Law and Nicole Kidman and set during the American Civil War, was filmed in Romania. Since then, a steady stream of productions have come to Romania to film, including the recent hit series starring Kevin Costner and Bill Paxton ‘Hatfields & McCoys,’ as well as the film ‘What About Love’ starring Sharon Stone and Andy Garcia.
