Fifty Shades Darker tops Romanian box office

American erotic romantic drama Fifty Shades Darker, the second film in the Fifty Shades series, debuted on the first place in the Romanian box office last weekend, with revenues of over RON 2.93 million (more than EUR 650,000), and 150,501 viewers, reports local News.ro.

The movie also ranks fourth, all-time, for highest admission revenues in Romanian cinemas in the opening weekend, after Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens and Furious Seven, both released in 2015, and The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, released in late 2014. It surpassed the first movie of the series, Fifty Shades of Grey, which grossed RON 2.77 million in the opening weekend, in February 2015.

Fifty Shades Darker had its debut in Romanian cinemas on Friday, February 10. The film, directed by James Foley, is based on the novel with the same name written by E. L. James. It stars Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan as Anastasia Steel and Christian Grey. See trailer below.

Computer animated action-comedy The Lego Batman Movie debuted second in the Romanian box office, with revenues of RON 615,502 (some EUR 136,000), and 31,671 viewers. Meanwhile, Resident Evil: The Final Chapter went down to third in the local box office, after generating revenues of RON 361,326 (EUR 80,000), and registering 13,940 viewers.

The top five continued with xXx: Return of Xander Cage ­– with revenues of RON 239,458 (EUR 53,200), and A Dog’s Purpose – revenues of RON 177,194 (EUR 39,300).
