Euromonitor: Romania is Europe’s “appliance production hub”

Romania has become a “hub of appliance production in Europe”, according to the last report of the market research firm Euromonitor International.

Romania’s production of refrigerators and freezers has increased by 5% compared to last year whereas the production of ovens & cookers has risen by 3%, reports local Economica.net.

Euromonitor International estimates a production of 435,300 large size cooking appliances this year. The number of refrigerators and freezers will exceed 2 million units.

Arctic is the largest appliance producer in Romania, with a turnover of EUR 376.7 million in 2015.The company, owned by the Turkish group Arcelik, has a factory in Gaesti, Dambovita county, where it produces about 1.9-2 million refrigerators and freezers. It plans investments in a new unit in Ulmi, near Targoviste, where it will manufacture washing machines. According to Euromonitor estimates, Arctic owns a share of 72.4% of the production of large appliances in Romania.

Swedish group Electrolux controls the production of large cooking appliances. With a share of 17.3%, it’s the second-largest producer of large appliances in Romania. It owns a factory in Satu Mare. Its turnover amounted to almost EUR 95 million last year.

The appliances produced in Romania are mostly exported to countries such as Italy, France, Germany, and Russia.
