Eurobarometer: Only one third of Romanians have confidence in the justice system

Only 35% of Romanians have confidence in the local justice system, down 13 percentage points compared to last year, according to the spring 2016 Eurobarometer. This is the biggest drop recorded by a European institution in such a short time, reports local Mediafax.

Meanwhile, 72% of Romanian respondents said they trusted the Army, down 4% compared to last year, and some half of them had confidence in the Police. When it comes to the Government, less than a quarter (24%) of Romanians have confidence in this institution, up 1 percentage point compared to the previous Eurobarometer.

A total of 30% of Romanian respondents trust the Public Administration, and 35% have confidence in the regional and public authorities. The Eurobarometer also showed that 13% of Romanians trust the political parties, up 1pp compared to last fall, while the percentage of those who have confidence in the Parliament dropped by 3pp, to 14%.

Only 3% of Romania’s population sees terrorism as a problem, down 3pp compared to last fall, way below the 16-18% European average.

The spring 2016 Eurobarometer was conducted between May 21 and May 31.
