Ericsson Romania has to pay EUR 10,000 moral damages to employee

23 May 2017

The local subsidiary of the Swedish group Ericsson needs to pay moral damages of EUR 10,000 to one of its employees for harassment at the workplace, plus court costs of about EUR 1,300, following a court decision that is final.

The company will transfer the money to O.I., director within Ericsson Telecommunications Romania, reports local Profit.ro.

The employee had requested EUR 250,000 for "the psychological suffering and the humiliating and degrading treatment" he was subjected to by the company. The man said that the harassment began after he opposed a project the company had with Orange Romania. He was forbidden to carry out any professional activity, isolated from his colleagues, removed from daily and weekly meetings, not allowed to occupy any position within Ericsson Romania or Ericsson Group.

The director said that he had been moved to the open space area, where only juniors worked, and he wasn’t given any task.

About ten days ago, Orange Romania lost its appeal against a previous court decision saying the telecom operator had morally harassed a former employee at work. The court also ordered the mobile phone market leader to pay moral damages of EUR 10,000 plus EUR 1,800 worth of court costs.
