Enel to invest EUR 280 mln in electricity network in Romania this year

The Italian energy group Enel will invest around EUR 280 million in the electricity distribution network in Romania in 2011, an amount similar to the one invested last year, according to Luca D'Agnese, the general director of Enel Romania.

Enel has planned investments of EUR 800 million in Romania between 2011 and 2015, in the electricity distribution sector. The group's general manager, Fulvio Conti said that Enel will build wind farms in Romania with an installed capacity of 400 MW, a project which will require EUR 500 million of investments until 2015.

Enel has invested over EUR 1.8 billion in Romania since its market entry in 2005. In 2010, Enel Romania had a net profit of EUR 78 million and revenues of EUR 970 million. Enel has about 2.6 million customers, 93,000 km of network and approximately 4,500 employees in Romania. The company sells energy in Romania through Enel Energie and Enel Energie Muntenia, and operates in the renewable energy sector in Romania through Enel Green Power.
