Employees of Romanian radio station will pay EUR 100,000 if they work as intelligence agents

29 March 2017

A radio station in Romania has decided to make the first step in clearing the media of covert intelligence agents.

Radio Guerilla decided to have all of its 29 associates and employees sign a statement saying that they haven’t collaborated and will not collaborate with a local intelligence service. Whoever breaks this agreement will be automatically fired and will have to pay EUR 100,000 damages to the radio station.

Mihai Dobrovolschi, one of the Radio Guerilla associates, says this initiative is aimed at protecting the press ethics and helping local media regain its credibility. He hopes that other media institutions will follow this example.

There has been a lot of talk in Romania lately about covert intelligence agents who may be infiltrated in the media or in local political parties to influence the public agenda.
