Eleven jihadists arrested in Romania last year

Eleven jihadist terrorists were caught in Romania last year, according to a Europol report published recently.

The document also shows that 151 people died and over 360 were wounded in terrorist attacks in the EU last year.

Some 1,077 terrorists were arrested in EU last year, almost 700 of whom were jihadists. More than 420 alleged terrorists were arrested in France alone.

Romanians also fell victims to terrorists, the report shows. Romanian citizen Iulian Ghergut was kidnapped in the border area between Burkina Faso, Niger and Mali in March 2015 by the jihadist group al-Murabitun.

Romania is mentioned in the report in connection with the Kurdish PKK group. Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Greece, Romania, Sweden, Switzerland, and the Netherlands reported the continuity of the PKK’s annual fundraising campaigns, which included collecting donations, membership fees and other revenues,” reads the document.
