Electricity supplier CEZ to also start selling insurance in Romania

Romanian electricity supplier CEZ Vanzare, a company owned by Czech energy group CEZ, plans to expand its activity into insurance brokerage.

The company wants to start selling mandatory car insurance (RCA) and mandatory house insurance (PAD) at the middle of this year, reports local Profit.ro.

The company will start with a pilot project in two cities where it has customer relations centers and to expand to other cities where it already has units as well as online, according to its representatives.

CEZ Vanzare supplies electricity to some 1.4 million clients in Romania’s Oltenia region. Sister-company CEZ Distributie holds the monopoly for electricity distribution in the same area.

CEZ Vanzare had a turnover of close to EUR 300 million and a net profit of almost EUR 17 million, in 2014.
