EC approves phasing of major infrastructure projects in Romania

06 December 2016

Seven major infrastructure projects, which Romania should have completed during the 2007-2013 financing period, have received the greenlight from Brussels to continue receiving funds from the new EU budget so they can be completed.

The European Commission will thus continue to finance three national road projects and four water and sewage projects.

European Commissioner for Regional Policy Corina Cretu approved the phasing of the seven projects, which are co-financed through the European Regional Development Fund or through the Cohesion Fund. Romania thus gets EUR 147 million for the transport infrastructure and some EUR 355 million for water and wastewater infrastructure projects.

The transport infrastructure projects include the modernization of the national road Pitesti-Campulung-Brasov, the highway Sebes-Turda, and the rehabilitation of the national road between Deva and Oradea. The other four projects include the expansion and rehabilitation of water supply and sewage systems in Brasov, Hunedoara, Olt, and Tulcea counties.
