Drug Manufacturers: Clawback tax goes up 2 points in Romania in Q3

31 October 2016

The clawback tax applied to pharma companies rose by 2 percentage points in the third quarter of this year compared to the same period last year, reaching 14.9% of the value of drugs that are reimbursed by the National Health Insurance, according to the Association of Manufacturers and Importers of Medicines (ARPIM).

Dan Zaharescu, executive director of ARPIM, said that the association finds no “justification for such increases, as the pharmaceutical market is shrinking," reports local Profit.ro. He also pointed out that the mechanism for calculating the clawback tax lacks transparency.

“We have no access to data used to calculate the tax, we don’t know how the funds raised through the clawback tax are used,” he added.
