The prison guards alerted the Police, which arrived at the prison when the drone was still up in the air, flying over the penitentiary.

“Next, a team made of prison guards and police officers went to the place where the flying machine had been directed, and started searching the area. On this occasion, they found a package outside the unit, which was taken by the police,” Colibasi Prison spokesperson told Adevarul.

Moreover, sources close to the investigation told to the local publication that the package also contained a small amount of drugs. The case was taken over by the Directorate for Investigating Organized Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT).

This way of smuggling things into prison is still new in Romania, similar cases being reported only in Botosani and Galati. The drones are used to send prisoners mobile phones or drugs.
