Draft law in Romania: People can pay extra social contributions to get pension

11 April 2017

Romanians who don’t have enough seniority to get a pension from the state will be able to pay until the end of this year the social insurance contributions for years when they couldn’t pay their contributions because they were unemployed or due to other factors, according to a draft emergency ordinance posted by the Labor Ministry.

A law from last year allowed people to pay their social insurance until the end of April 2017 so they could benefit from pensions. The current emergency ordinance extends this period until December 31, 2017, reports local News.ro.

People can pay their social contributions in one instalment or in monthly instalments.

The Labor Ministry explained that it wants to postpone the deadline after receiving several notices from Romanians in the country or working abroad who want to contribute to the social system so they can get a pension.
