17 October 2016

Defense minister Mihnea Motoc cycled 56 km on Saturday, October 15, to help raise the funds needed to support the Romanian soldiers’ participation at the 2017 Invictus Games in Toronto, Canada.

Invictus Romania volunteers and members of the Povestasii Association also participated in the event.

“We’ll also grant funding from our budget, but we can’t cover all the expenses, so it is best to do everything we can to complete these resources in the 11 months remaining until the event. I join with pleasure such actions, as usual,” the minister said, reports local News.ro.

Romanian President Klaus Iohannis also participated in a similar cycling charity event on September 22.

In mid-September this year, the Canadian Government has officially invited Romania to take part in the 2017 Invictus Games with a team of Paralympic athletes, wounded soldiers, and war veterans.

The Invictus Foundation, under the patronage of Britain’s Prince Harry, organizes the event. It aims to increase public awareness about wounded, injured, and sick Servicemen and women, and encourage and support their physical recovery and rehabilitation through sports.
