Competition for new Bucharest logo opens for entries

21 March 2017

The competition via which the Bucharest City Hall will select a new logo for the Romanian capital is now open for entries, and will end on April 20.

Bucharest City Hall has already published on its website the rules of the competition and the registration form. The winner will be awarded RON 50,000 (some EUR 11,000).

“The logo made during the contest will represent a group of graphical signs consisting of a set of characters with descriptive role that reflects the history/culture/city life of Bucharest,” reads the competition’s regulation.

The jury will analyze and score based on several criteria, namely relevance to the contest’s theme, attractiveness/attractive design, originality (to combine elements reflecting the historical tradition of Bucharest with elements that take into account the current trends), functionality (visibility and readability, to be easily recognizable, and to be fit for being printed on small surfaces without losing essential details), and adaptability (to allow the later declaration of some sectorial brands such as cultural Bucharest, touristic Bucharest, musical Bucharest, etc.). The five criteria will have equal weight in evaluating each work.

However, if the jury finds that no logo is representative for Bucharest, it can decide to name no winner, without having to justify in any way the decision.

Any Romanian citizens aged over 18 can participate in this contest. The winner will be announced on May 3.

Find the regulation here and the registration form here (in Romanian). Registration and participation in the competition don’t require any fees.
