Companies in Romania want higher subsidies for hiring apprentices

29 August 2016

Companies that hire apprentices are negatively affected by expenses, especially labor costs, while the costs for the state are at a low level, according to a government study.

The apprentices demand salaries higher than the minimum wage in the economy, reports local Profit.ro. Companies have thus asked for a higher subsidy from the state for hiring apprentices. They currently get a subsidy of RON 300 (EUR 67), and demand one of RON 500 (EUR 112).

The apprentice needs to be between 16 and 25 and to be employed for at least one year and up to three years.

The Economy Ministry also wants to come up with a set of measures that will help companies create vocational schools for training the personnel they need. These schools would train employees to keep up with the digital era, said the economy minister Costin Borc.
