Civil servants in Romania may receive a stress bonus

28 February 2017

Romania's Senate decided on Monday that civil servants should get a special bonus for risk and neuropsychological stress. The bonus would be equal to 50% of the base salary.

The granting of this bonus was adopted with 88 votes in favor, 11 votes against, and one abstention, reports local Digi24.

The provision was voted as an amendment to to a law from 1999 on the status of civil servants. “To compensate the specific activity, the civil servants of the National Agency of Civil Servants also benefit from a 50% bonus of risk and neuropsychological stress, applied to the monthly basic salary,” reads the amendment to the law voted by the Senate.

In November last year, following a notification from the Government led by Dacian Ciolos, the Constitutional Court ruled that this bonus can be granted to civil servants, but without being included in the base salary, as it appeared in the initial text of the amendment to the law from 1999.

The Chamber of Deputies will have the final say in this matter, as it will also have to vote on the granting of this bonus.
