Cinema City opens EUR 8 mln multiplex in Romania's Timisoara

21 April 2016

Cinema City, the biggest cinema operator in Romania, has recently opened its 23rd multiplex cinema in Romania, in Timisoara. The investment amounted to EUR 8 million.

The cinema is located in Shopping City Timisoara, a mall that was recently inaugurated by South-African investment fund NEPI. The new multiplex in Timisoara features both an IMAX screen and the 4DX technology.

This is Cinema City’s first inauguration this year, after the group opened five new cinemas in 2015. The company plans to open three more units this year and consolidate its leader position in the local market.

Cinema City now has cinemas in 16 cities and the next openings will be in Bucharest, Buzau, and Piatra Neamt.

Romania is currently the third biggest market for British group Cineworld by the number of screens, after the UK and Poland. Cineworld is the second-biggest cinema operator in Europe.
