Chinese router producer enters Romanian smartphone market

13 April 2017

Chinese company TP-Link, which is mainly known as a router producer, has entered the local smartphone market by launching two models with 5-inch and 5.5-inch screens.

The company wants to reach 1% of the unencoded smartphone sales, which will reach about 1.3 million units this year, reports local Hotnews.ro. This market segment represents less than a third of the local smartphone market as it does not include smartphones sold by telecom operators to their subscription clients at discounted prices, which are usually encoded.

TP-Link’s Neffor X1 smartphone has a 5-inch HD display while the X1 Max model has a full 5.5 inch HD display. The latter one has a 2.5D Corning Gorilla Glass screen.

Neffos X1 and X1 Max use the Octa-core MediaTek Helio P10 processor and support dual band Wi-Fi. Both models are equipped with a 13 MP camera with Sony IMX258 sensor, with f/2.0 aperture, phase-detection autofocus and dual-LED flash.

The smartphone market in Romania is dominated by international groups such as Samsung, Huawei, Apple, HTC, and a few local producers such as Allview, Evolio, and Utok.
