Bucharest's south belt could be widened to four lanes

05 May 2017

Romania’s National Company for Road Infrastructure (CNAIR) has auctioned off the project to widen to four lanes the southern segment of Bucharest’s ring road.

This is the most recent infrastructure project in Bucharest and aims to remove traffic jams, according to an announcement from CNAIR.

The documentation for the public procurement procedure has already been sent to the National Agency for Public Procurement and will be published in the Electronic Public Procurement System SEAP.  The work targets a segment of about 6 kilometers of the South Belt and two crossroads. Its estimated value is about EUR 88 million.

In 2015, when the South Belt was redesigned, the two crossroads were designed as suspended traffic circles.

CNAIR has also started the public procurement procedure for modernizing an 11-kilometer segment of the Bucharest belt in the eastern part of the city, between national road DN2 and the A2 highway.
